Antenatal Care
Antenatal care, also referred to as pregnancy or maternity care, involves comprehensive support from obstetricians and allied healthcare providers such as neonatologists, midwives, and pain management specialists. This care includes regular appointments, health monitoring for both mother and baby, and counseling throughout pregnancy and beyond.
Preconception Care
Whether pregnancy comes as a surprise or is carefully planned, preconception care ensures you’re medically prepared for a healthy start. This care begins even before conception or immediately after pregnancy confirmation, offering early access to antenatal care for a safe, well-managed pregnancy journey.
Antenatal Counseling
Throughout your pregnancy, you’ll typically have 10-12 antenatal appointments, with the number adjusted based on your health needs. These sessions provide personalized counseling to help you manage your pregnancy and maintain both your health and your baby’s well-being. During these one-on-one consultations, your obstetrician will discuss your medical history, symptoms, and overall well-being. Additionally, you’ll receive guidance on nutrition, physical activity, and prenatal supplements, as well as access to birth preparation classes like Lamaze, Yoga, and other integrated therapies. These appointments are the perfect opportunity to voice your concerns and questions
Prenatal Scans and Tests
Prenatal care includes a variety of scans and tests designed to track your health and your baby’s development. These tests are spaced throughout your pregnancy to monitor progress and detect any complications early, enabling timely intervention.
Common Prenatal Tests and Scans:
- Ultrasound Scans: These non-invasive, painless scans use high-frequency radio waves to create images of your baby, providing information on fetal size, number of fetuses, and baby’s physical condition, position, and placental health.
- Blood Tests: Blood tests can detect infections, inherited conditions like sickle cell anemia and thalassemia, and pre-existing health concerns.
- Amniocentesis: This procedure screens for chromosomal abnormalities such as spina bifida and other genetic conditions by testing a sample of amniotic fluid.
- Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS): CVS screens for genetic disorders by analyzing placental tissue, often recommended for families with a history of genetic conditions.
- Fetal Monitoring: During labor, fetal heart rate monitoring ensures no abnormal patterns arise, enabling preparation for emergency interventions like a C-section if necessary.
